Driving

I was hesitant to take driving lessons when we first arrived at the Central Coast. I was too pampered in Asia where we have drivers and to employ one is also pretty reasonable, so I guess I thought I don't need to drive again. I thought I can get away with a public transport but I soon realised that it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Hubby got a few projects to work on in Asia and this requires him to be away for weeks. Although I have some relatives in the area, their time is not suitable to mine most of the time. The thought of accidents while my husband is away and no one can drive us to the hospital scared me the most.
So then my journey in getting a driver’s license begins. First I had to read the Road Users Handbook that has 175 pages. I took the Driver’s Knowledge Test and got a 100%. Thanks to my supportive Mum in-law for driving me to the RTA!
I had 3 driving instructors and all of them had different styles and techniques of teaching. All are great in their own rights but sometimes no matter how great you are if you don’t have the connection to your students as well as the passion to do your job; it is in my opinion a waste of time. However, I would like to thank all of them for sharing me their knowledge and helping me familiarise the road rules of NSW.
If you are reading this and would like to get a good instructor at the Central Coast, I would suggest you call this person;
Laila of Avenues Driving School --- mobile # 0410651830
My hesitant to learn was replaced with fun. I guess I was more scared of the road rules in Australia because where I was driving (in the Philippines) we don’t follow most of the rules lol.
Oh by the way, I got my full license last February 24, 2010! Thanks to my Testing Officer who has got all the patience in the world and was very nice! I was so nervous because of the horror stories I hear about testing officers. I think gone are the days where they have to make sure they have to look and talk scary or are they?

I hope everyone had an amazing 2009. It was an interesting year for me and my family. We moved from Indonesia to Australia, I had my New Year (2009) in the Philippines, I went to Bandung with my Mum in-law to shop at the factory outlets, tried the "Eat Right for Your Blood Type" diet, my Mum got really sick, we enrolled my daughter to a big school for this year (2010), had Christmas with my in-laws in our home, I got my Learner's permit to drive, I met some friends on SingSnap at Myrtleford, Victoria!
So for this year I am wishing everyone a good health, wealth and happiness. Let's all have a successful 2010!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Thank you all for the prayers! Thank you Shane aka Badiguard for initiating all these, I didn't want anybody else to know but I thought if I can at least ask my friends to pray for my Mum, I am sure she will recover the soonest.
For those of you who didn't know, my Mum was admitted to the hospital last Dec. 26, 2009. She was in and out of consciousness that day. She wasn't feeling well for weeks and didn't even had the strength to celebrate her birthday last December 3. She went to the doctor a week before Christmas and had some test. She was given a bunch of medicines but it didn't do any good to her. She was finally rushed to the hospital as she couldn't breath and stand anymore. She needed a blood transfusion and was given insulin as her sugar was very high.
Yesterday, we finally had a chat on the phone for 3 minutes, she got tired after that. She is much better now but she is still very weak.
I decided to do a song for her to let her know how much she is loved by all of us. She has been a great influence to me, woman of strength, a mother who wants nothing but the best for her family.

Thank you all once again for your prayers, it means a lot to me and my family!

We are hosting a Christmas dinner and a boxing day with hubby's family this year! What a great way to welcome us back in Australia! I realise though that I didn't have a maid to help me with all the preparations :( but then I am lucky to have the most wonderful husband who is more than willing to help! I am so blessed and I love him so much for being so helpful, understanding and responsible. He is doing so much and still manages to smile the whole day( i love you sweety!).
To all of you out there who are celebrating with your family, relatives and friends; to those celebrating alone; to those who are working on this day, to those who are out there sharing food and drinks with the charity or homeless people, to those who are sick (get well soon, I will pray for you), to all of you that I don't even know, and to the whole world .... GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

The 1st Get Together in Australia

Sing Snap is a great karaoke website where you can meet different people from all over the whole sharing their passion in singing. I became a member of this lovely karaoke community 2 years ago. I have met different personalities from annoying, problematic, amazing, funny, supportive, serious, poor me attitude so on and so forth from the forums. The main reason I join is so I can push myself to practise my voice and to learn new songs. However the more I sang the more listeners I got and I always enjoy having a happy audience. Before I moved back here in Australia I opened "Welcome To The Land Down Under" (TLDU) thread in the message board. It is not just for Australians but those who love or visited the country as well. Beyond my wildest imagination after 2 years at Sing Snap I finally met some members last 28th November, and it was our first SingSnappers get together in Australia! It was a bit of a travel but when I got to Myrtleford, Victoria where the gathering was held, it was worth it! Everyone was so friendly as if we have known each other for ages! We had fun and didn't want to end the night but the motel was closing. I wasn't able to meet all TLDU members but I am hoping to see them next year. I wish that one day though I will get to meet all my SS friends from all over the world, I am sure my Australian friends will love the idea as well. Singing is my profession and my passion but when you get to met humble and lovely people whom I can now call friends makes me think how lucky I am to choose music to be a part of my life!

"Heal The World"

I received a message regarding a child who was murdered in the USA. I felt so sad that a young girl had to die because of some crazy people out there. I thought of this song right away and decided to do an open invitation to my Australian friends at "The Land Down Under" forum on SingSnap to sing a part of the song. The response was overwhelming and we started singing our chosen parts at our own free time. I get emotional every time I hear a new part of the song is added. There was no hesitations of sharing the individual's talent, such great people even if most of us have not met each other face to face. Sharing ideas and helping one another made the project so touching that I decided to make a video after all of my friends finished singing their parts.
Here is the video with 15 voices in one song from all over Australia and one Australian who works and lives in Cairo.
TAHLIA (8 years old) - Let's think about the generations
and try to heal the world to make it a better place
for us children
JAMES - There's A Place In Your Heart
And I Know That It Is Love
And This Place Could Be Much
Brighter Than Tomorrow
INDY - And If You Really Try
You'll Find There's No Need To Cry
In This Place You'll Feel
There's No Hurt Or Sorrow
FINEALTA -There Are Ways To Get There
If You Care Enough For The Living
Make A Little Space
Make A Better Place...
JAY - Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me
BONEY - If You Want To Know Why
There's A Love That Cannot Lie
Love Is Strong It Only Cares For
Joyful Giving
CAZZ & DOUG - If We Try We Shall See
In This Bliss We Cannot Feel
Fear Or Dread
We Stop Existing And Start Living
SIMMIE - Then It Feels That Always
Love's Enough For Us Growing
So Make A Better World
Make A Better World...
GRAHAM - Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough For The Living
Make A Better Place For You And For Me
TITAPRO - And The Dream We Were
Conceived In Will Reveal A Joyful Face
And The World We Once Believed In
Will Shine Again In Grace
Then Why Do We Keep Strangling Life
Wound This Earth Crucify Its Soul
Though It's Plain To See
This World Is Heavenly
Be God's Glow
ROMAN - We Could Fly So High
Let Our Spirits Never Die
In My Heart I Feel You Are All My Brothers
SHAZZA - Create A World With No Fear
Together We'll Cry Happy Tears
See The Nations Turn
Their Swords Into Plowshares
DEE - We Could Really Get There
If You Cared Enough
For The Living
Make A Little Space
To Make A Better Place...
SIMMIE - Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me

I cannot put into words how much I love your voice and style. If you are not professional, you should be. Patti LaBelle's songs are very dificult to sing and you belted it out like you've been doing it all your life. You have a gift! Please use it and don't ever stop...Ron

I have a few great friends who are amazing singers. I thought I feature them here as well.
Let me start with Dana. Here she is.....
I am from Philippines originally;) I started singing when i was 10 yrs old....I idolized a very good singer name Nora Aunor and even singing just like her lol (that time lol) ....then i joined a lot of singing… Contest....i was also singing in the bars where GI’s are when I was 13…..then when i was 17 i started singing with the band and go abroad...like in Saipan....in Dubai, Bahrain, Oman, Abu-Dhabi, Al-Ain, Sharjah. Around Arab Countries;) I even sang with the same group a very good and popular singer in Philippines in the 70’s named Boy Mondragon;) We are in a showband…those we’re fun days.
Then I got married with my German husband where I met in Dubai…got married here in Germany and we have 2 lovely kids;) And then I found out about Karaoke online from a friend here in the net….so I started singing with my awful sound hahahaa im not the only one hahaahahaa..funny but great isn’t it…how was your first recording here in SS;) I’m glad I found out how to do it…but sometimes its going bad (the sound) lol (means Laugh out Loud) I also sometime help other tell them how to fix their sound, coz they have a good voice but you don’t hear the right sound;) oh well , we all gonna figure it out anywayJ
So I guess I said enough about me…gotto do my laundry and ironing..wanna join me lol cya all here!!! Have a great day everyone;)

I have been here in Australia for 2 months and 16 days now. We left Jakarta, Indonesia last June 5 after living there for more than 2 years. We are lucky to leave the country before the bombings of JW Marriot and Ritz-Carlton Hotels last July 17, 2009 in the city of Jakarta. My condolences to the families of the victims, such a sad day.
So far, I am having a bit of a tough time adjusting here. Having a maid and a company driver as well as cheap taxi fare in Asia, here I have to rely on my husband to get me around. The reality of cleaning, cooking and looking after a daughter without any help is a bit of a challenge for me right now. I am sure I will be able to manage my time with a few adjustments here and there. I am also hoping to continue my driving lessons that I didn't finish when we lived in Mornington, Victoria here in Australia 6 years ago. Well, it is easy to forget about driving when you can get a cheap taxi fare in Asia not to mention my husband's company driver whom I can borrow anytime.
All I know is that I am happy we finally have our keys to our new house last 17th August! A new life and a fantastic one!

We have lived in different countries because of my husband's work. I have made friends and we employed a househelp as well. Living in Indonesia is a mixture of nice and bad things. Nice things are the cheap clothing, bags, shoes, great food, wonderful maid and amazing friends. I am not going to mention the bad experiences we had as it is going to be uncool for my site.
However, it was very sad to leave Indonesia because I left some very nice friends like Somali, Beverly and other awesome friends. My daughter misses her friends Puja, Maryam, Kimberly, her other friends and classmates. We left a very trustworthy and great helper whom I considered a member of the family. She took good care of my 4 year-old daughter since she was 2 years old and it was really sad to see her cry when we left. I told my husband that of all the countries we lived in, I was unproductive in Indonesia but I met some really nice people and I will never forget them.

I have met great friends on the internet most especially in the karaoke website SingSnap. They are so sweet to make a portrait of me. Here some of them that I want to share with you all.
The first one was created by Sandy Mombay from California, USA. He saw my profile photo and I got lucky to get his attention and he asked me if he can have a bigger size so he can draw it. He draw this for 20 minutes! Brilliant isnt?

The second one was created by Shanda of Tennessee,USA. She is one of my bestfriends on SingSnap. She is very talented and have been doing this since she was young. She did this for me a couple of months ago.

It's amazing how their names started with the same letter hehehe... Thank you for sharing your talent with me Shanda and Sandy!
Singing Contest in Ormoc City, Philippines

The phone rang while I was finishing cooking our Christmas dinner. We had so much left over that day and I decided to cook fried rice. I love fried rice; my maid will always say “fried rice again?” every time she asks me what I want for lunch or dinner lol. Dad hanged up the phone after a few minutes and told me I will be judging for a Singing Contest in an hour. He is a favorite judge when it comes to singing competitions in my province. I guess they already know Dad is a fair judge. He is a brilliant singer himself and was respected by his awesome stage performances and range during his band days. He was quite popular in my province and when it comes to singing everybody knows Joe Tomada. Anyway, it was a Grand Finals sponsored by Boy Vasquez and his daughter Angela (a fantastic singer).
A 9 year old and the only male contestant won the Grand Finals. His delivery of the song was impressive and I thought they are better singers during my contest days. The winner received cash and some goodies and I was asked to announce the Grand Champion.
What a great way to end year 2008! I was able to finish the year judging a singing contest and best of all; I had the honor to judge together with my mentor and inspiration, my father.

A relative sent me a message almost 2 months ago. I replied back to her immediately but then my email came back to me. She saw me on my website http://www.jonahtomada.com/ . The truth is that, I don’t know her and I haven’t met her. She found me on my website that is why she sent me an email. I knew she was a relative because she mentioned an older relative whom we all know. I was a bit sad because I wasn’t able to help her and at the same time we didn’t get to know each other more.
Yesterday, another relative sent me a message. She saw me on my website as well. I was really surprised because we used to chat in her store in Manila. We also talked a lot about music because she is a musician and a great singer herself. I was so happy she has found me!
If your family or maiden name “Tomada” kindly join me on my forum http://www.jonahtomada.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12 or you can also check and join us in the Sacay - Tomada website http://sacay-tomada.ning.com/ so we can all get to know each other.

Singing Lessons

After five lessons from a very well known singing school in Melbourne, Australia I stopped going to the school. I got so bored with the vocal exercise and I thought the technique the teacher was trying to teach me was ridiculous. She wants me to lift my cheeks, drop my jaw and open my mouth. When I asked her why, her explanation was more confusing than dropping my jaw and lifting my cheeks. When I joined a group class one time, one student asked why he has been having a sore throat from singing. The reply was embarrassing, I realized they are not well trained because of the unknown facts the teacher was saying. The school was very popular because the founder and owner had some great qualifications in the music industry and he is a singer himself in Australia.
So there I go frustrated and went to find another school. It didn’t took me a long time to find “Invisible World” now “Dreamquest Singing Academy”, and decided to give it a try since it was closer from where I live compared to the other school. The founder of the Academy was my teacher, a soft spoken and reserved lady, Melissiah. What impressed me most were the answers she gives me to every question I ask. Her teaching was spot on to my category. You see, I have been singing professionally with different bands around the Asia Pacific. I was also a vocal coach at the “The Centre for the Pop Music Philippines” in Manila since I was 19 years old. The previous teacher was giving me exercises for someone who have just started singing and who doesn’t know all about it. With Melissiah I enjoyed every session we had and for the first time in my life I understand what my body was doing during singing. I always look forward to learning more from her until my husband got another job in Beijing, China.
I went back to the Academy after 2 years and took a Diploma for VoicePower Coaching. I was very lucky to be accepted because Melissiah doesn’t just train anybody. She makes sure that whoever she trains share the same passion as her. So after a number of applicants there are only two teachers she trained so far that are VoicePower Coach around the world and that includes me. These are Melissiah’s own words;
At Dreamquest Singing Academy we teach students how to sing correctly, powerfully and beautifully, using their entire body, mind and soul. The way we have developed our singing methodology is through science and research. The way we help students develop their talent is through fun, commitment and passion. At Dreamquest you will certainly discover you are 'born to sing'.
I started teaching in Singapore and had a very overwhelming response. I have students from 10 years old to 50 years old, it was rewarding to be able to share your knowledge and experience to the people who are willing to be educated with their singing instrument. I always say, “we only have one pair of vocal folds, if you enjoy singing or want to pursue singing as a profession I advise you to understand your singing instrument to avoid damaging your only pair of vocal folds, because once it is damaged you can’t get another one.”
